Basketball Rules and Why it is Important?
Just a brief history of the sport, it was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith in Springfield. The primary objective of the game goes directly from its original rules that are focused on shooting the ball through a hoop that is suspended above the ground, which is otherwise referred to as a basket. Now in the modern game of basketball, the rules have been improved which are now:
5-Man Team
For each team on the court, only 5 players are allowed to play. Regardless of the league whether it is NCAA, WNBA, NBA and whatnot, the professional rule states that a team can only have a max of 5 players on the court.
If the team breaks this rule, then they are going to lose ball possession. At times, this happens inadvertently, especially at low level games when the substitute players are checking into the game and the other player do not leave the court immediately.
Scoring
The objective of the game is to score more than the opposing team. A field goal is in reference to the basket that a player scored during the gameplay. The field goals are either 2 or 3 points. Field goals are shot from inside the arc are all 2 points. All field goals that are shot outside the arc are considered 3 points. The field goals take in different forms such as jump shots, slam dunks, tip-ins, and layups.
Shot Clock
Teams are only given limited time to score when the ball is in their possession. In WNBA and NBA leagues, the teams are given 24 seconds to shoot but in college basketball, it is extended to 30 seconds. If in the event that the shot clock elapses, then the opposing team loses their possession.
